{"id":6800,"date":"2020-02-23T18:22:45","date_gmt":"2020-02-23T18:22:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/heinleinsociety.org\/?p=6800"},"modified":"2020-02-24T01:50:57","modified_gmt":"2020-02-24T01:50:57","slug":"ths-participates-in-farpoint","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/heinleinsociety.org\/ths-participates-in-farpoint\/","title":{"rendered":"THS Participates in FarPoint"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Heinlein Society President, John Tilden (pictured above), represented THS at the FarPoint Convention in Baltimore, Maryland on February 22, 2020.&nbsp; Mr. Tilden was joined by Betsy Childs (pictured above), a new THS Member and THS Member Steven Wilson.&nbsp; Even though FarPoint is a Star Trek focused Con, there are connections.&nbsp; Several Star Trek episodes were influenced by RAH, not the least being &#8220;The Trouble With Tribbles&#8221; episode.&nbsp; Star Trek contacted RAH to get permission to air the episode because of the similarity between Flat Cats (The Rolling Stones) and Tribbles.&nbsp; RAH graciously agreed and ended up becoming a fan of the show himself.&nbsp; Mr. Heinlein proudly displayed a Kelly Freas drawing of LT Uhura in his office.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1712\" style=\"width: 191px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/heinleinsociety.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Untitled10-Copy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1712\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1712\" src=\"https:\/\/heinleinsociety.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Untitled10-Copy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"181\" height=\"247\"><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1712\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Frank Kelly Freas&#8217; painting of Nichelle Nichols as Star Trek&#8217;s &#8220;Lt. Uhura&#8221;. This painting was displayed at the Smithsonian with all seven &#8220;officers of the deck&#8221; from the original Star Trek series, as painted by Freas, as part of a larger temporary Star Trek exhibit.
